Only Chris Morris could take the topic of suicide bombers and make a movie that’s thought-provoking, affecting, and, above all else, bloody funny.

To be honest, nobody expected something generic from Morris’ first foray into cinemas. If anything, Four Lions occasionally surprises in its conventionality: there’s a clear narrative arc and well-written characters, the film just happens to focus on a group of incompetent would-be terrorists.

Thankfully, Morris’ open-minded, almost sympathetic approach doesn’t get in the way of Four Lions being non-stop hilarious, and it doesn’t suffer from the TV feel that these crossovers often have. British comedy films may well have a new saviour.
